Where and How to Start?
Sure, there are lots and lots of information on this website about the game testing industry but …
as it turns out, most of you find us from various random search phrases and other websites without a clue where to start reading. And the most common question that seems to come up is “Where/How do I start?”
So let’s tackle that.
Understanding The Industry
For the first introduction to the field of game testing or “QA/ Quality Assurance”, as it is called officially, I’d like you to point to this speech directly from the horse’s mouth:
It’s from EA but the principles apply to all game tester jobs.
Understanding How To Get Into The Industry
This part is actually somewhat more complicated than watching a single video. There are a few decent guides out there on what you need to know … and there are a couple really good ones.
We from Game Tester Heaven recommend this one (click here to read more about it).
Sorry to not give you an all-in-one answer on this single page but it really is an extensive topic.
Understanding How To Get The Actual Job
Don’t expect a magic pill here. It’s the same as with any other job: you apply, doing everything you found out in the previous step, and eventually you get hired.
We have a regularly updated US-based game tester job board to give you adresses to send your resumes.
Please note that we from Game Tester Heaven do not directly offer game tester jobs, we are merely hosting the job offers of other companies. So sending us a resume is wasted time.
Recap
I’ll give you the action steps once more to make sure you get it:
- Watch the above video
- Read a good guide on getting ready for the industry (like this recommended one)
- Apply to jobs from our and other job boards (“Latest Game Tester Jobs” on top of this page)
- Bookmark and check back to GTH regularly to get the industry news. Sorry, a little self-promotion never hurts
Good luck!

I always wanted to be a video game tester because it’s the greatest job to have in the world plus I love games like resident evil, doom, contra, mortal kombat and much more plus I’m a new arthor published through xilibris, the name of my book is saint creedamuss child of revelation and I was hopeing to turn my skills into a game itself. Please contact me cause I really wont this job and will work 24hrs a day if I must. Thank you and God bless.
i love playing games, but i really dont think that to become a tester you need all the above kind of knowledge. One must enjoy the game while playing, if a tester likes a game it doesnt mean that all people might like it.I played resident evil 5 but it is boring ,resident evil 4 biohazard is far better than RE 5.
i love to play EA games i think i would b a great game tester because i find bugs in games at home and i have yet to find a game that i cant crush put me to the test and ill show EA a true gamer
EA games been my overall favorite games to play. My favorite would be every command & conquer game along with battlefield games. I highly recommend a new game like Generals to come out. Red Alert to me went down hill after Red Alert 2. I would very much like to help EA members with creating successful games by being a game tester for EA. My email is mikanj@yahoo.com
